Number Of Flood Evacuees In Kelantan, Terengganu And Sabah Drops As Flood Situation Improves

The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan, Terengganu and Sabah saw a slight drop while Perak remained unchanged as of Monday (26 December).

However, a number of Sabah residents in the coastal area, especially those living stilt houses, were recently evacuated due to high tide phenomenon.

A total of 12 relief centers in Kelantan have been closed as of 4 PM yesterday after 3,900 flood evacuees were allowed to go back home.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) Disaster Management and Operations officer, Captain (PA) Mohd Hanif Omar reported that six relief centers in Pasir Mas and Tumpat were still operating, housing 1,511 people from 515 families as opposed to 5,411 from 1,787 families on Monday morning. 

“Five relief centers in Pasir Mas are housing 1,174 people from 390 families while 337 people from 125 families are still at a center in Tumpat,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the number of evacuees in Besut has since fallen to 138 from 1,438 as the situation in Terengganu improved. 

According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, 126 evacuees were housed at the Masjid Kampung La relief center while 12 were at the Kampung Pantai community hall. 

In Perak, only one relief center is still operating as of Monday evening, which is located at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abd Rahman Talib (SMART) in Hilir Perak. It is currently housing 62 individuals from 14 families.

The number of evacuees in Kota Belud, Sabah has also decreased to 139 from 143 from 58 families.
