Apparently, life outside of jail can be harder for some people…
A 60-year-old man from Thailand was recently arrested for stealing, but it turns out, he wanted to be caught so he could be sent back to jail as he does not have enough money to live.

According to Mashable SEA, the incident occurred at around 3:30 pm on July 29th in the Sattahip district, in the Chonburi province just two hours south of Bangkok. The incident was caught on camera where the man had confessed to the police what he had done.
The police identified the man as Phi, and said he stole three bars of soap worth 17 baht, which is around RM2.09 each, totaling 51 baht which is RM6.28.
The public, after finding out the petty costs of the stolen items, had volunteered to pay for the man to ensure that he walks free, but the man refused.

The man later confided in another person and revealed that his life was difficult as he did not have a job and was starving every day, which was why he preferred to go to jail by stealing things to save his life.
He added that he wanted to go to prison because there are at least three meals in prison and a place to stay. This is actually pretty sad!
“And when you are lonely, there are inmates by your side. If I stay outside, I might have starved to death,” he said.
The incident was caught on camera showing the man being taken away in the back of a truck, however, it is unsure whether he was arrested.
Our hearts break for the poor man. We wish him well!
