In response to a question posed by Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, a Member of Parliament from Sungai Petani, Mohamad Hasan affirmed that PLKN 3.0 will be executed in two phases and will target Malaysian youths.
Phase 1 will be carried out in schools and will involve Form 4 students. This initial phase will primarily focus on uniformed co-curricular activities such as scouts, police, and firefighters. Notably, Form 5 students will not be included in phase 1 as the government intends for them to concentrate on their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.
On the other hand, phase 2 will occur after the school phase and will exclusively include SPM graduates. Phase 2 will encompass 45 days of training, with 90% of the program dedicated to basic military training, while the remaining 10% will focus on nation-building.
The Defence Minister also clarified that phase 2 will utilize 13 Territorial Army Camps across the nation, including the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, the cost of the revamped program has been revealed to be RM100 million per year, significantly lower than the RM500 million spent on PLKN 2.0 in the past.
