A recent Facebook post by DBKL revealed their deployment of officers to address another issue: the removal of metal grills from a flat in Wangsa Maju.

The decision to intervene came after the resident repeatedly ignored notices from DBKL issued since January this year. These notices clearly outlined that all metal grills had to be removed to comply with regulations. Despite the warnings, the resident failed to act, prompting DBKL to execute the removal of the iron grill structure in a coordinated operation.
The operation enlisted the support of several departments, including the Enforcement Department, Property Valuation and Management Department, Health and Environment Department, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department (JKME), Building Control Department, Wangsa Maju Branch Office, and the Royal Malaysian Police.
"Through this enforcement action, DBKL has removed iron grills that were installed without approval and obstructed public corridors under the offence of Section 46, Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974," stated DBKL.

The remains of the removed iron structure have been relocated to the JKME Store on Jalan Cheras for further processing and documentation of the disposal process.
This incident underscores the importance of considering our neighbours and prioritising safety when living in apartments. Unauthorised alterations, such as extending balconies or installing metal grills, not only disrupt the aesthetic harmony of the building but also pose serious safety risks, particularly concerning fire hazards.
Rules and regulations are in place for a reason. They serve to maintain order, ensure safety, and promote harmonious living within shared spaces!
