At first glance, the act of filling up a car with petrol might seem ordinary. However, what was deeply concerning was that the engine of the car remained running, and one of the car doors was left open during the refuelling process.

The video, shared by VideoViral Malaysia on Facebook, captured the moment when one boy, seemingly the older of the two, refuelled the vehicle while the presumed parent or guardian remained seated inside the car. A second boy, believed to be his younger brother, then joined in to help with the refuelling after getting out of the front passenger seat.

What made the situation even more dangerous was the open door and, most worryingly, the engine still running. This is highly hazardous, as it can lead to static electricity build-up, which in rare cases, could ignite a fire.

Refuelling a car with the engine on poses a significant risk of explosion or fire, as the petrol vapours can easily ignite from a spark. Thankfully, no incident occurred, and the boys safely returned to the car once the refueling was complete, with the driver then pulling away from the station.

Throughout the video, the voice of the individual recording the scene could be heard expressing disbelief at the negligence.

“These kids must be around 8 years old. Refilling the car like this could cause an explosion. Doesn’t the driver care about their safety?” the man remarked. “If you want to teach your children, teach them properly.”

Just a reminder for all you drivers out there - Always switch off your engine and close all doors before refuelling. It only takes a small spark to cause a disaster, and no one wants to be the cause of an avoidable tragedy. Stay safe and refuel responsibly.
