Unemployed Man Jailed For 18 Months For Using Counterfeit Money

An unemployed man was sentenced to 18 months of jail on Monday (August 30th) after pleading guilty to two charges of using counterfeit coins worth RM100 to buy rice and cigarettes. 

According to Astro AWANI, the accused, Muhamad Fizwan Norruhadi was arrested on August 23rd and was charged for using counterfeit money to buy nasi bungkus which costs RM5 at a food stall in Beserah, Pahang on August 21st at 9:30 am.

He was also accused of using the counterfeit money at 3:18 pm on the same day at a convenience store in Indera Mahkota to buy a pack of cigarettes which cost RM12. 

The case was investigated under Section 489B of the Penal Code which provides a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

At the proceedings, the accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, appealed for a lenient sentence on the grounds of caring for his 64-year-old father.
