Education has always been one of the core components of our society; it’s the reason why our parents always make us study so hard ever since we were young. It’s also reflected in the quality of educational institutions we have, especially in higher education.

Most notably, The University of Malaya (UM) was recently ranked 70 among 1,001 institutions from around the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR) 2020, placing it in the top seven percent. According to Malay Mail, UM jumped 17 spots compared to the previous year with its overall score improvement of 7.2%, continuing its consistent improvement since 2014.

The institutions were rated through six categories: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio. UM scored an overall score of 67.1, with academic reputation being the main contributor to its success.

According to UM-vice chancellor Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim, UM has always been held at an international standard for a greater vision of education in Malaysia.

Our goal is, and has always been, to benchmark UM against other outstanding universities around the world with a view for further improvement in order to help raise the standard of Malaysian higher education.

Malaysia boleh!
We’re so proud of UM’s accomplishments and its recognition at such a global level.
