Turtle Found Dead At Terengganu Beach, May Have Drowned After Getting Caught In Fishing Net

Guys, we need to do better with disposing of our waste. We HAVE to be better!

Recently, a carcass of a female turtle was found stranded on the shores of Pandak Beach, Kuala Terengganu.

According to BERNAMA, Terengganu State Fisheries Department director, Ruzaidi Mamat said his department received multiple reports from the public regarding the incident.

After inspection, it was found that the turtle, weighing 15 kilograms and estimated to be between four to five years old, suffered injuries to the eyes.

“The cause of death has not been identified but the turtle may have drowned after getting caught in a fishing net,” he said.

The turtle was then taken away to be buried nearby.

Sadly, this is the 38th turtle death recorded this year!

We can’t afford to lose anymore turtles, guys. The status of marine turtles in Malaysia is either endangered or critically endangered.

WWF Malaysia states that the leatherback turtle population in Malaysia has declined by more than 99% since the 1960s, while the olive ridley turtles have declined more than 95%, while the Hawksbill turtle has become one of the most critically endangered species of turtle in the country.

This is very, very sad. Let’s be more responsible with our waste. Remember to reuse, reduce and recycle!
