Trainee Nurse Is The First Healthcare Worker To Be Infected By Covid-19 In Malaysia

Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed four new cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia.

According to The Star, director-general, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that new cases are all Malaysians aged between 20 and 52 years old.

A trainee nurse has been infected with Covid-19, the first healthcare worker to be infected with the disease. 

The 20-year-old nurse is among the four new cases reported at noon on Sunday (1 March). 

The trainee labeled as case 27 was undergoing short-term training at a private hospital and had previously treated case 24. 

She had handled the patient without wearing any protective gear (the PPE) as recommended (Feb 21 and 22).

Feb 27, she started coughing and tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 29. She was identified as a close contact during tracing by the health district office. 

The nurse is sent to isolation ward in Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment and further observation, said Datuk Noor Hisham. 

Meanwhile, a Malaysian man aged 52-years-old who is case 26, had a history of travel to Shanghai, China in mid-January. He started having a fever and sore throat and sought outpatient treatment in a private hospital on the same day (Feb 27) and tested positive for Covid-19 on February 29.

Case 28 is a Malaysian man aged 45-years-old, a colleague of case number 25. 

He was found to have the symptoms on Feb 26, and tested positive for Covid-19 from close contact tracing on Feb 29 and was sent to an isolation ward in Sungai Buloh Hospital. 

Another case is a Malaysian woman aged 35-years-old, Case 29, who was admitted to a private hospital on February 21 and placed in a room with Case 24 - whose situation was unknown then.
