Seri Alam district police chief, Mohd Sohaimi Ishak told FMT that police received a report from the Sultan Ismail Hospital regarding a “brought in dead” case involving the toddler at 6:41 pm.

He said that investigations found that the 59-year-old woman had taken the victim and her sister to school in Sungai Tiram at about 1 pm.

The victim was then unintentionally left inside the car at her house in Kampung Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram, Johor by her grandmother who had turned off the car’s engine and entered the house.

Sohaimi added that at around 6 pm, the victim’s mother realised that her daughter was not in the house and failed to find her. The grandmother then realised that the victim was still in the car and they found her unconscious on the floor of the car, in the back seat.

A post-mortem at the Sultan Ismail Hospital on Monday (April 26th) found that there were no bruises or injuries on the child’s body due to abuse.

“Doctors confirmed that the child had died due to heatstroke after being trapped in the car for so long,” he said.

The case is now being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which provides for jail term not exceeding 20 years or fine of not more than RM50,000 or both upon conviction.

This is so sad!

Please don’t leave kids in the car by themselves… always take your children with you whenever you get out of the car, just as you bring along your valuables!
