The remains of the deceased were recently “stolen” from seven graves in a Chinese cemetery in Bukit Aup, Sibu, Sarawak.

Teo Boon Siew, chairman of the Sibu United Chinese Graveyard Association, confirmed the disturbing discovery and claimed he was told of the incident yesterday, "One of the family members of the deceased buried there alerted me of the situation on Sunday when they went to the cemetery to attend the Qing Ming festival.

"We went to the cemetery today and discovered seven tombs that had been desecrated and coffins that had been burned,” he said, as reported by the Borneo Post.

He also added that there was evidence of burnt objects, meaning the coffins were burned not far from the graves.

Teo visited the graves and noticed that the deceased’s bones were nowhere to be found.

“We don’t know who did it, but we suspect it was done by experts because they made six dents on the front, center, and back of each grave,” condemning the perpetrators for their lack of respect for the deceased.

“They removed the bones out of the coffins and burned them in the neighboring bushes,” he said.

He also assessed that the crime took place over two weeks earlier as grass had begun to grow at the location where the coffins were set ablaze.

What a terrible thing to do!

Our hearts go out to all the families affected.
