Malaysian Medical Association president Dr N.Gnabaskaran explains...

"People can still travel back to their hometowns. But those who want to go to large gatherings, public places or take holidays at this point of time, please be cautious and ensure that you take care of yourself, and young children, who may be affected if we do not take care of them."

Dr Gnabaskaran adds that practicising good personal hygiene is also crucial, including using hand sanitizers when out in public places.

Also, all schools have been urged to postpone sports and co-curricular activities, as a precaution amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

It follows an earlier directive by the Health Ministry, that all large public events be cancelled considering the current circumstances.

Meanwhile, in Perlis, Friday prayers across the state have been cancelled today because of the coronavirus, and will be replaced with Zohor prayers at home.

Elsewhere, several high-profile individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Among them are the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Arsenal football manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The world of sports has also experienced major disruptions because of Covid-19.

This weekend's season-opening Australian F1 GP in Melbourne has been cancelled, while Premier League officials are due to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss future fixtures.
