In a bid to avoid having to use firearms, The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is reportedly considering equipping its officers with taser guns to deal with aggressive suspects.

IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said, “PDRM does not want to shoot anyone, and wants to resolve issues without loss of life, such as when dealing with persons under the influence of drugs who will be aggressive, so we want to only use taser guns to resolve these cases.”

Taser guns had been introduced before, but not many were provided to cops for their daily operations.

Should the move go through, Abdul Hamid added that the guns would have to be durable like the ones used by cops in the US, as taser guns have a specific lifespan depending on its quality.

Tasers, also known as stun guns, are designed to produce a small electric shock to immobilize a person, making it easier for cops to put on handcuffs.

How does a taser affect your body and brain?

Well, the shock overwhelms your nervous system, causing your muscles to lock up, and you won’t be able to move.

Your brain's ability to process new information is also impaired, and you’ll have a harder time remembering that new information later.

But don’t worry, the damage is only temporary, and you’ll be back to normal within an hour.

Tasers definitely beat getting shot with a real gun, but let’s not give police a reason to use them anyway, okay?
