Pocket Rocketman Focus On Birmingham Commonwealth Games & Hangzhou Asian Games

Making the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and Hangzhou Asian Games his focus this year, Malaysian cyclist Azizulhasni Awang will detour from the Asian Championships in New Delhi in June.

According to NST, the coach of the Keirin silver medallist, John Beasly said that Azizul would skip the Asian meet, initially scheduled on February 23rd to February 27th, as his wife is now in her third trimester with their third child.

Although the Asian meet has been postponed ‘till June due to the pandemic, the Pocket Rocketman said he still has no plans to compete in the continental event for now.

“I have not really had the chance to sit down and talk to John about our plans yet.

“But if you ask me now, I don’t think I will be competing in the Asian Championships even though it has been postponed, as it could be risky in terms of crashes, injuries and so on,” he told NST.

He also added that he wants to give the opportunity to the younger riders to compete.

Meanwhile, Azizul will be focusing on the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games instead.

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled for July 28th until August 8th while the Asian Games will be held from September 10th until September 25th.

Whatever it is that you decided to do, always know that Malaysians got your back! All the best, Pocket Rocketman!
