Good news: RON95 petrol will be subsidised... Bad News: Not everyone will enjoy the subsidy.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister says about 2.9 million Bantuan Sara Hidup recipients registered with JPJ will receive the benefit.
The targeted subsidy scheme will see the owners of cars and motorcycles receiving subsidies for RON95 petrol every 4 months.
Owners of vehicles powered by engines 1,600cc and below will receive a subsidy of RM30 a month while motorcyclists with engines 150cc and below will receive RM12 a month.
Earlier, the government said it would channel the subsidy directly into the accounts of the recipients once every four months.
However, the scheme will only be given to car and motorcycle owners based in Peninsular Malaysia.
But don't worry residents of Sabah and Sarawak, the government has got you covered!
There will be no subsidy scheme there, but the price of RON95 will be capped at RM2.08.
