Perak Wildlife Conservation Centre Welcomes Baby Gaur And Pangolin!

It’s sad that a lot of our endangered species here in Malaysia receive little to no conservation action due to the lack of awareness among the public.

But  here’s some good news! Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Centre in Perak has just welcomed the births of two endangered species under their care!

The department shared that the birth is an initiative to protect and maintain the country’s biodiversity for future generations, “Covid is healthy and active. He will be observed by the department for now to ensure its well-being.”

The baby gaur, born to its parents, November and Daisy on Sunday (8 November) has been given the name Covid.

Just in case you’re wondering, the gaur, also known as the Indian bison or seladang in Bahasa Melayu is native to South and Southeast Asia, and has been listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN) Red List since 1986, as reported by the Malay Mail.

The baby pangolin born to its parents Gerik and Balan on 9 November has yet to be named by the department, and this is actually the second time baby pangolins have been born at the centre after it welcomed two pangolins called Corona and Corina back in May.

Welcome to the world little ones!
