According to BERNAMA, the amendment to Article 30 of the State Constitution was tabled by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and was approved with unanimous support from all 59 state assemblymen after four of them debated the issue.

He said that the amendment to the Bill was made to be in line with the Constitution (Amendment) Act 2019 which came into effect on 11 September 2019, after it was amended earlier in July.

Ahmad Faizal said: “This is a significant move which will have a long-lasting impact on the state and the future generations. I call on all elected representatives in the state assembly to work together in realising our aspiration to give our youth the opportunity to contribute their energy and ideas for the sake of strengthening democracy.”

YB Syed Saddiq took to his Twitter to congratulate Perak and urged other states to follow suit.

Meanwhile, a total of 4.2 million people in the country aged 21 and above are eligible to vote but have yet to register as voters.

Remember, voting is one of the most impactful things you can do for yourself and your community!
