Number Of Flood Evacuees In Terengganu And Kelantan Has Risen

The number of flood victims in Terengganu and Kelantan has increased with 19,626 evacuees in relief centers (PPS) in the two states this morning, up from 14,521 the night before.

As of 8am today, Monday (February 28th), the number of victims in Terengganu had risen to 11,137 people from 3,177 families, up from 6,963 people from 2,072 families just the day before. The victims are currently taking shelters across 157 relief centers in eight districts.

According to BERNAMA, the Terengganu Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the weather in most of the state’s districts was expected to be pleasant by today morning, while the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (JPS) website indicated that six rivers were still in danger.

Sungai Kemaman and Sungai Tebak in Kemaman, Sungai Nerus (Setiu), Sungai Telemong (Hulu Terengganu), Sungai Dungun (Dungun) and Sungai Terengganu make up the six rivers.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees in Kelantan as of this morning had risen to 8,489 individuals from 2,750 families, up to 7,558 people from 2,449 families the day before.

As of now, 68 PPS has been opened across seven districts including Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Pasir Puteh, Machang and Kota Bharu.

Three main rivers in Kelantan were reported to be in danger: Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah; Sungai Kelantan in Temangan, Machang; and Sungai Kelantan in Kusial, Tanah Merah.
