It seems that whenever we think our daily tally for new COVID-19 cases can’t get any higher, we surprise ourselves.
Malaysia ended 2020 with the highest-ever recorded daily tally (or so we thought) on December 31st with 2,525 cases, but yesterday (January 6th), we outdid ourselves with a new record of 2,593 new COVID-19 cases.
This brings our total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 125,438, with 24,347 cases still active.
During his daily press briefing yesterday, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, “Selangor records the highest number of cases with 965 and of the total, 894 are from COVID-19 clusters. This is followed by Johor with 571 cases and Sabah with 405.”
Kuala Lumpur reported 265 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (125), Penang (77), Kelantan (43), Kedah 42), Perak (34), Terengganu (19), Melaka (13), Pahang (11), Putrajaya (9), Labuan (9) and Sarawak (5).
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said that there were 1,129 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 100,578.
And as if one new record wasn’t enough, The Health Ministry (MOH) also reported a daily record high of 13 new COVID-19 clusters in the country, in Selangor, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah and Melaka.
There are now 252 active clusters left of the total 561.

If you really have no business being out of the house, stay home, people. But if you’re out and about, please remember to always follow SOPs.
