New, Possibly More Infectious Strain Of COVID-19 Detected In 30 Countries

A new strain of COVID-19 has been detected in more than 30 countries in the past four weeks.

In a tweet shared by the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Lambda strain was reported to have originated in Peru, the country with the highest mortality rate in the world.

MOH also linked a report which stated that the strain is believed to be more transmissible than Delta, previously believed to be the most infectious strain of COVID-19.

According to NST, the strain is baffling scientists and has been linked to 81% of Peru’s cases since April this year.

Experts are saying that some studies show Lambda is more transmissible and deadlier than any of the previous variants.

Compared to the Delta variant which had a 38% mortality rate, the Lambda variant is even more concerning as it seems to be more infectious. The variant also showed a resistance to antibodies created by the CoronaVac vaccine.

Guys, this is getting pretty serious. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Stay at home and remember to abide by the SOPs when you’re out!
