A poultry farmer suffered a loss when 11,000 of his chicks that was kept in a coop were caught in a massive fire in Pekan Gurney, Sitiawan early this morning (23 October).

Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Mohd Zaki Zainol said they received a call at about 5.35 am, before 34 members with two vehicles and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van were rushed to the scene.
"Upon arrival at the location, a part of the coop was burnt down as it was built entirely of wood, causing the fire to spread more easily,” he said.
"However, the fire brigade managed to control the fire and only 50 percent of the coop was saved. No casualties were reported and the operation ended completely at 9.45 this morning," he said when contacted by BERNAMA.
