The body of a 52-year-old man has been found in the old Public Works Department (JKR) building in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Police were alerted after members of the public who passed through the area at about 6:30 am this morning (December 29th) noticed the body.

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji said a team of officers were directed to the scene immediately after receiving the call through the 999 emergency line.

“Investigation at the scene found that the man's body had some injuries. Further examination on the victim's body also found that there were six small wounds on his face, one on the right ear, as well as bruises on the neck,” he said.

Habibi added that it’s unclear if the victim’s injuries came from a weapon, or bites or scratches of wild animals, as there are many monkeys at the scene.

Investigations are still ongoing, with the Forensic Unit of the Sabah Contingent Headquarters (IPK) set to conduct an examination at the location where the body was found.

“We also contacted the K9 Detective Dog Unit to assist in further investigations, as well as interview witnesses, while the victim's body will undergo a post-mortem after a COVID-19 screening test,” said Habibi.

Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family.
