Thomas Heller, a 50-year-old German guy had bought an old kitchen cabinet on eBay from an old couple for US$253, which is about RM1,106.24.

However, when the cabinet arrived, the man noticed that it came with two mysterious boxes inside, which contained over US$162,000 or RM708,345 in hard cash!

Heller told reporters that the money was stashed in separate envelopes, each containing different amounts of money in different denominations. Other envelopes had much larger bills while one only had €100 inside, which is about RM459.11.

You must be wondering “What’s next? Does he get to keep the money?”

Well, according to a police spokesperson, Astrid Kuchta, the cabinet that Heller purchased came from a house liquidation of an elderly couple in Halle, Central Germany, which means the money still belongs to the 91-year-old woman in Halle.

Kuchta stated that the two boxes containing cash were placed in a difficult-to-see section of the cabinet, and Heller purchased the furniture from the elderly couple’s grandson, who claim to have no knowledge of the hidden cash.

Though he had to return the money, Heller was still rewarded with a 3% finder’s fee of US$4,721, which is around RM20,642.57.

Not bad at all!
