The recent data breach suffered by Malindo Air is said to be contained.
Investigations revealed that the breach was caused by a former employee of its e-commerce services provider, GoQuo (M) Sdn Bhd in their development centre located in India. The employee in question had improperly accessed and stole personal data of the Malindo Air customers.
In a statement released by Malindo Air, they stated that this issue is not related to the security of its data architecture or to Amazon Web Services, and that no payment details were compromised in the incident.
They also added that they have been working closely with all relevant agencies including the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Commissioners and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), along with their counterparts overseas.
Data forensics and cyber security experts have been brought in to review the airline’s existing data infrastructure and processes as a proactive measure. Added measures include initiating an auto-reset of all customers’ passwords. Malindo Air further cautioned all customers to be wary of suspicious and unsolicited calls and emails.
