Have you heard of our very own local superhero, the Keluang Man?
Based off a fruit bat, known as keluang in Malay, it is basically a Malaysian batman!
The cartoon series first aired in 1998 on TV1 (Radio Televisyen Malaysia), but ended in 2002. All good things come to an end, after all.
Free Malaysia Today reported that the creator and our very own pioneer of digital animation, Kamaruddin Ismail, passed away yesterday at 4.15p.m. in the University Malaya Medical Centre.

Fondly known as Kamn Ismail, the 63 year old succumbed to a heart attack along with complications from other illnesses.
According to the president of the Malaysian Animation Society (Animas), Amir Hamzah Hashim, Kamn had been receiving treatment at UMMC over the past two months.
"On behalf of Animas, we are saddened by his passing and we extend our condolences to his family," he said, adding that Kamn was one of the first in the country to make use of computers for animation with the production of Usop Sontorian.
He also used 2D and 3D hybrid animation in creating Keluang Man. For that time and age, technology of this sort was new and we have to salute his imagination and skill!
Kamn will be laid to rest at the Bukit Tandang Muslim cemetery in Petaling Jaya.
Rest in peace, Kamn! Your work lives on in the hearts of Malaysians.
