Malaysia Records 15.5% Drop In New COVID-19 Cases, Says DG Hisham

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the country fell by 15.5% in the epidemiological week 22 (ME22), from May 29th to June 4th, from 13,076 the previous week (ME21) to 11,052 cases.

According to Malay Mail, Health direct-general, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 4,513,631 on Monday (June 6th).

“The ME22 has an average daily active case count was down 8.2% from the previous week while the infectivity rate (Rt value) also decreased by 2.2% to 0.91, compared to 0.93 the week before. 

He added that the number of recovered cases in the ME22 fell by 13.4% from 15,925 to 13,797 in the ME21, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,455,499.

DG Hisham also said that the number of deaths in ME22 increased by 36.8% to 26 cases, compared to only 19 cases reported the week before, bringing the total number of deaths because of COVID-19 to 35,686.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients admitted to health facilities like hospitals and COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) has increased by 11% in ME22 compared to ME21.
