Malaysia continues to record a worrying number of COVID-19 cases, after it reported 287 new cases today (October 2nd).

This is the highest number Malaysia has reported so far.

All the new cases were local transmissions, most of which were found in Kedah and Sabah.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah says 20 of the new cases had recently travelled to Sabah.

"Of the 287 cases, 20 were recent travellers to Sabah. This means the number of new cases reported from visiting Sabah since September 20th stands at 139," he said.

Meanwhile, two new clusters were detected today in Selangor's Hulu Selangor and Gombak districts.

The death toll remains unchanged at 136.

Also, new and existing students getting ready to register for university, have been urged to do so online.

This, as the Higher Education Ministry advised all face-to-face registrations to be postponed, due to the nation's rise in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the Ministry says airline companies have agreed to reschedule student flights until the end of the year.

This, after a number of students had already bought their tickets to return to campus.
