A 49-year-old single mother of two recently married her pet cat in a civil ceremony to prevent her landlord from evicting it in the future.

Deborah Hodge said she had to rehome three animals in the past because her landlords do not let tenants keep pets in the house, and to protect her five-year-old black and white cat, India from suffering the same fate, the former life coach chose to marry her pet.

According to The Mirror, “the couple” tied the knot in a ceremony in which Hodge wore a tuxedo, and India was draped in gold lamé with Hodge’s friends watched from a park in south-east London.

The ceremony was done by a friend who is legally ordained and India meowed her way through her vows.

“I married my cat because I had nothing to lose and everything to gain! I swore to the universe that no man will ever be able to separate me from India,” she said.

By marrying India, Hodge hopes that her future landlords know that they come as a package and they cannot be separated under any circumstances.

Hm, weird… but okay.
