It’s A Logo, Not A Flag

These past few days, we have seen several news concerning our national and state flags.

From the misdrawn flag at Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) basketball championship to the Perak Basketball Association (PBA) inverted Perak flag on a basketball jersey, now, the flag fiasco continues with a logo of Jalur Gemilang flag that was missing a few stripes and points on its star.

A poster of the 2020 CK Classic International Taekwondo Championship organised by Selangor Taekwondo in Shah Alam from Aug 14-16 next year went viral yesterday. The poster has since been taken down by the organisation, but people are mainly enraged with the misdrawn (somewhat similarly to the one displayed by MABA) of a flag with a five-pointed star, claiming how the organisation has disrespected our national flag.

In a statement by the organizing chairman, Grandmaster CK Karan said, “Let it be clear, that what we have displayed on the board is – NOT A FLAG, and definitely not a Malaysian flag, it is merely a logo created to embody both Malaysia and Selangor, being the host country state.”

Assuring all that the logo of the flag was drawn in such a way on purpose, the five-pointer star is claimed to signify the event location in Selangor and participants representing the game coming from 5 continents.

According to Karan, the logo has been used for the longest time since this is their 14th edition championship coming 2020 and in no way was it an ignorant act by the organisation.

However, the organisation has agreed to remove the logo for future tournaments.

“Moving forward, we will change the star to appease the many. We are after all Anak Malaysia, and we would like to stay united with our beloved country in doing the right thing.”

At the wake of all this controversy, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has also highlighted the issue with a snippet from an article showing the taekwondo event with the logo at the back on his Facebook earlier today. His post was in support of the organisation for removing the logo and advised everyone to refrain from discussing the issue further as the police are investigating the incident.
