Since the start of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) on May 10, we have been seeing an increase in the number of vehicles on the highways, especially in the Klang Valley.

City Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (TEID) chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the withdrawal of roadblocks during the CMCO is to enable smoother traffic flow and to ease travel for those returning to work.

He also said that there was an increase of 30 percent in the number of vehicles entering Kuala Lumpur compared to the MCO period.

Is this helping traffic conditions?

However, there is already an increase in the number of accidents on the roads. On the morning of May 13, police officials reported of a major accident on the PLUS Highway (North-South Expressway) near Bandar Ainsdale involving a few vehicles, that caused heavy traffic from the Seremban R&R.

Another incident of an overturned trailer was reported on the Pulau Indah Highway on May 12, causing a massive traffic build up from Jalan Kem - Westport the following morning.

A few more accidents were also reported around KL city centre and in Johor Bahru on the morning of May 13.

Drivers are advised to always be alert and practise cautious driving on the roads. Never use a phone while driving and always fasten your seatbelt before you start your journey. Remember to drive safe everyone!
