There are fears that the English Premier League could face another suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, similar to last year's three-month shutdown.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said he wouldn't be surprised if it happens, as the emergence of a new COVID-19 strain caused a spike in cases in the UK.

So far, five matches this season have been postponed due to virus outbreaks at a number of clubs.

This includes this week's clash between Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the British government is getting fed up with multiple SOP breaches involving players and supporters.

Several Premier League players issued public apologies for partying over the Christmas and New Year period.

More recently, hundreds of fans allegedly ignored physical distancing rules when they gathered outside the stadium that hosted Tottenham's FA Cup third-round clash against non-league side Marine.

To nip this problem in the bud, the Premier League released new and enhanced guidelines on what players and staff should do on matchdays.

Among other things, the swapping of shirts after matches is banned, to avoid "unnecessary contact" between opposition clubs.

Players were also reminded to avoid hugging or giving high-fives when celebrating goals.
