Instafamous Couple Who Travelled Interstate For “Honeymoon" Fined RM2,500 And Jailed For One Day

Last month, a series of Instagram story screenshots circulated on social media of a couple who travelled interstate for a ‘honeymoon’ during the MCO period. 

The owner of the photos even admitted that she had travelled interstate with her husband for their honeymoon trip, but then later provided proof that she was actually travelling interstate for a work trip to Johor on March 15th.

According to Astro AWANI, the instafamous couple, 24-year-old Iram Naz Hafiz Sabir Muhammed and her husband, 23-year-old Azharique Shah Abdul Jalil pleaded guilty before being sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (April 20th).

The couple, who sell henna-based products, were jointly charged with giving false statements to Wangsa Maju police chief ASP Fairul Nizam Anuar, when applying for an interstate travel permit to Johor, when they knew that the information given was not true. 

They were charged under Section 22(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, and punished under Section 24 of the same act, carrying imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine or both.

The couple also applied to the court to impose a minimum sentence because they have family dependents, however, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Ahmad Hakimi Wan Ahmad Jaafar suggested that due to public interests, they will still be sentenced to prison, as reported by BERNAMA. 

This is really not the time to go on a holiday, guys! We’re still under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period, so do not be complacent.
