If You’re Caught Violating MCO Rules, You Could Be Fined Up To 10K!

if you’re caught violating mco rules, you could be fined up to 10k!

Those who breach Movement Control Order (MCO) regulations may be fined up to RM10,000, according to the e-Federal Gazette.

Companies that violate restrictions will be liable to a maximum fine of up to RM50,000.

The new rules under the Emergency ordinance will come into effect on March 11th.

While the hefty fines might not sit well with many, medical experts believe this is a good move.

Astro Radio News spoke to Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association president, Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar, who said the public needs to realise the rationale behind such a ruling.

“This will deter people from breaking MCO rules and help curb the spread of COVID-19. If you intend to move about, don’t forget to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said.

Another amendment in the ordinance states that any person who breaches the law for “which no penalty is expressly provided” can face a fine of up to RM100,000, or a jail sentence of up to seven years.

Also, an authorised person may instruct COVID-19 patients or their close contacts to wear any tracing device, such as a wristband provided to them.
