Saying goodbye is always hard, but inevitable.
This 31st December, we will have to bid farewell to one of the oldest supermarkets in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, when the doors close permanently on Cold Storage Section 14 which is located in Jaya Shopping Centre.
The supermarket has been running since the mall was simply called Jaya Supermarket and had a closing-down sale beginning last Saturday, and the shelves emptied out by 5pm on the same day. The building was constructed in 1974, and was the very first mall in Petaling Jaya - who would have expected that such an unassuming building would have so much history?

Cold Storage is run by GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd, which also operates the Giant supermarket and hypermarket chain, the Mercato supermarkets and Jason’s Food Hall.
The Cold Storage website states that they began operating in Malaysia in 1963, and that they have 14 outlets across the nation. On their store locator, however, there are only 8 stores recorded, which suggests that there may have been 7 store closures thus far.
Guess we will have to wait and see who will be taking over.
