Hiker Dies After Falling Into An 80-Metre Gorge At Bukit Banang

A 20-year-old woman who was hiking on Bukit Banang died tragically after falling 80 metres into a gorge on Saturday (14 November).

According to The Star, Batu Pahat Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nor said that the victim was hiking with several other friends when she fell.

The department received an emergency call from one of the hikers at around 11:30 am, “One Fore Rescue Tender (FRT) and two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicles with sixteen personnel were sent to the scene”

The woman was declared dead at the scene by a Health Department medical officer, “Upon arriving, we found a woman who had fallen 80 metre into the gorge. We managed to bring her body up at 3:00 pm.”

The Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Azhan Abdul Halim confirmed the incident and classified the case as sudden death and the body has been handed over to the police for further action.

“Got sad news about Aina Nabilah Yusof who passed away today after falling into the valley, while climbing in Bukit Banang,” he wrote.

“Aina is the child of Teacher Yusof and Teacher Rosnah who has been so close and helped me in Yong Peng since becoming a member of Ayer Hitam Parliament in 2004. I am also saddened by Aina's passing news. May her soul be blessed. Condolences to Teacher Yusof and Teacher Rosnah and family,” he added.
