With Deepavali set to take place next Saturday (November 14th), the government has announced several SOPs, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during celebrations.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said only those residing in areas under the Recovery and Conditional Movement Control Orders will be allowed to go to the temple.

He added they can do so only on the first day of the celebration and attendees are capped at 30.

Before entering the premises, attendees must undergo temperature checks and register themselves either manually or via the government’s MySejahtera app.

Datuk Seri Ismail adds that prayers must end by 12:00pm.

Pre-packed desserts can be handed out after prayers, but devotees must immediately disperse after the event.

Meanwhile, those in RMCO and CMCO areas can hold celebrations at home.

A maximum of 20 people will be allowed in the house at one time.

However, the number of people will depend on the size of the premises.

As for those in areas under an Enhanced MCO, prayer events in temples are NOT allowed to take place.

Meanwhile, celebrations at home will be limited to the household’s occupants only.

Also, for those hoping to balik kampung for Deepavali, take note that inter-district and inter-state travel from CMCO and EMCO areas is not allowed.
