Those celebrating Chinese New Year next week will only be allowed to do so at home, as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said home celebrations are limited to members of the same household.

He added that cultural activities associated with the holiday such as lion dances and opera performances are not allowed.

Only five temple committee members will be allowed to carry out prayers, without the attendance of devotees.

Datuk Seri Ismail also noted that those looking to balik kampung for the celebration will not be allowed to do so.

He said it’s because inter-district and interstate travel is still banned during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

As for those celebrating in Sarawak, Datuk Seri Ismail said SOPs will depend on the state government, as the COVID-19 situation is different there.

Please continue to follow SOPs and stay safe, everyone!
