Having self-confidence can bring many benefits either at home, at work or within your relationships.

So, if you’re struggling to feel confident about anything, here are 5 ways you can begin building your confidence, according to Verywell Mind.

#1 Stop comparing yourself to others

You are your own person! Whether you compare how you look with the people you see on Instagram or you compare your salary to your friend’s income - just know that comparisons aren’t healthy!

Researchers found that people who compared themselves to others experience envy, and the more envy they experience, the worse they feel about themselves. Remember that comparing yourself with others isn’t helpful and everyone is running their own race and life is not a competition.

#2 Take care of your body

It’s hard to feel good about yourself if you are not taking care of your body.

If you practice self-care, you know that you’re doing something positive for your mind, body and spirit, and you’ll naturally feel more confident!

#3 Practice Self-Compassion

Self-compassion involves treating yourself with kindness when you make a mistake, fail or experience a setback. This way, you are more in control of your emotions and able to navigate challenging emotions.

Sometimes it’s okay to fail and know that you can learn from it.

#4 Positive Self-Talk

Self-talk is a powerful tool. Being optimistic can help you foster self-compassion, embrace self-doubt and take on new challenges with a positive attitude.

Remember that thinking negatively of yourself can limit abilities and lessen your confidence by convincing your subconscious that you “can’t handle it” or that something is “too hard” and you “shouldn’t even try”

#5 Embrace Self-Doubt

Sometimes, people put off doing things like inviting someone on a date or applying for a promotion until they feel more confident.

Stop doing that, don’t wait! The best way to gain confidence is by doing and try doing things that your brain tells you that you can’t. The next time you are face-to-face with your fears… just face it head on!

Everyone struggles with confidence at least once in their lives. But if your self-confidence issues interfere with your work, social life or education, you should consider seeking help from a mental health professional.

Be confident!
