Health Minister Urges High-Risk Senior Citizens To Take Double Booster Shot Before Aidilfitri

The COVID-19 variant Omicron is still a serious concern, especially to high-risk groups says Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the elderly, chronic patients with high blood pressure and diabetes, and those with immune system problems should be given the best possible protection against the deadly virus.

“For some, Omicron is as harmless as a normal cold, but for others, it could be dangerous.

“For the groups I mentioned, it is highly suggested to take a second booster shot because the effects and the symptoms of the Omicron variant can be severe,” Khairy said as reported by BERNAMA.

Khairy, who did not rule out an increase in infections during the approaching Hari Raya celebration said attempts to improve the percentage of booster doses, particularly among the elderly, needed to be stepped up, and that his office would advise state health directors to do so before Aidilfitri.

The government has assured that Malaysians will be able to balik kampung to celebrate Hari Raya without any restrictions.

The Ministry also said that they are pleased with the current infection trend, in terms of admissions to the intensive care units (ICU), hospitals are not under any pressure.

“However, it is preferable to protect the elderly as their children returning home may bring the virus with them. The parents can get a booster shot at a local clinic,” he added.
