Filling Up Petrol In The New Normal

The CMCO has finally been lifted in our country! However, as we enter the recovery phase, it is still important for Malaysians to continue following the proper preventive measures to steer clear of the Covid19 virus.

One of the many worries of the public is safety at petrol stations. .

Thankfully, petrol stations have adopted safety measures such as sanitizing fuel nozzles and door handles.

However, our safety does not depend solely on the petrol station’s safety measuresWe too, need to take it upon ourselves to follow the necessary hygiene protocols when filling petrol.

1. Firstly, instead of going to the cashier to pay for petrol, you could pay using a debit or credit card at the petrol pump itself. For those of you filling up at Petron petrol pumps, the good news is RM200 will not be pre-authorized to your card if you use a mydebit or ATM card.

2. However, if you still have to go to the cashier, to buy some things at the mart for instance, always practice social distancing while in the queue. To further limit physical contact with the cashier, you can opt for cashless payments, such as debit/credit cards or e-wallets.

3. Next, make it a habit to always bring a bottle of sanitizer with you whenever you head out. This way, you will be able to sanitize your hands before and after you touch the fuel pump. If you don’t have sanitizer with you, don’t fret, as most petrol stations provide sanitizers at the pumps and at the mart entrance.

#Bonus tip: don’t leave your sanitizers in the car as the heat can make the sanitizer lose its potency, and it’s also a potential hazard. To avoid this, keep your sanitizer in a purse, bag or pocket rather than in your car.

4. And finally, for those of you who are extra cautious and would prefer not to leave your car when filling petrol, some petrol stations offer dedicated pumps for full service. For example, Petron stations have one pump dedicated for full service, from 8am – 6pm every Wednesday. This means that a Petron staff will help you fill up on petrol,  while you remain in the comfort of your car!

The new normal will be here for a while, so let us get used to incorporating these necessary steps at petrol stations for a safer Malaysia. Stay safe at the pump, everybody!
