The recent stormy weather has been the bane of many drivers, with reduced visibility and flooded roads being just some of the problems.

Today, heavy winds and strong rain caused a tree to fall, killing a woman at Universiti Malaya’s main entrance. According to Malaysia Kini, the Fire and Rescue Department said that its operations centre in Kuala Lumpur received a distress call at 5.31pm.

Firefighters from the Seputeh and Pantai fire stations arrived around 13 minutes later. “Upon arrival, a female adult victim was found pinned beneath a tree in front of University of Malaya’s main entrance. Paramedics from the University of Malaya Medical Centre confirmed the victim had died on the scene,” the department said in a statement.

The statement also reported that it was believed the woman was walking out of the varsity when the incident happened.

The victim has yet to be identified and the issue has been handed over to the police for further action to be taken.

The Fire Department added that the same falling tree damaged three cars in the area as well.

Some things are unavoidable, but we would like to advise everyone to exercise extra caution during this rainy season.

Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.
