Eeee, Waste To E-Waste!

eeee, waste to e-waste!

Everything has a lifespan, and the same goes for electronics. Where do you throw your old powerbanks, smartphones, batteries and cameras?

Throwing them into regular bins will simply fill up landfills and cause harm to the environment - the cadmium, lead, beryllium and mercury in your electronic devices can really be a huge threat to the environment and to us! These chemicals may make its way into the soil or water animals (and people) consume, leading to an incredibly toxic cycle.

As with regular trash, recycling e-waste is a great way to reduce environmental damage. Some recyclers may sort out the waste to salvage reusable materials or use mechanical shredding to make something of the waste.

Conveniently, 1 Utama now has an e-waste campaign going on. There are five categories to be recycled - household batteries, powerbanks and MP3 music players, tablets and mobile phones, compact cameras and videocams, as well as laptops and DSLR cameras. As an added incentive, those who have a ONECARD will also be rewarded with points (or just recycle for the love of Mother Nature!)

Located on the second floor, the e-waste booth has bins labelling where you should dispose of your waste. The waste that is collected will then be sent to an ISO-certified e-waste plant where the parts will be sorted through and dismantled, then sent for refining and melting. Other parts will be treated and disposed of safely, ensuring we reduce the impact on the environment!

Will you be recycling your e-waste today?
