A doctor was fined RM5,000 by the Sessions Court on Wednesday (June 23rd) in default five months’ jail for sharing a video containing fake news about the Sinovac vaccine in April.

The accused, Dr. Jamnul Azhar pleaded guilty when the charge was read before the judge.
The 53-year-old, who is wheelchair-bound, arrived at the court around 8:50 pm, accompanied by his wife and child.
According to NST, the accused was charged with spreading fake news through his video on UiDM Polimas’ Facebook page, and at the same time used the profile name of ‘UiDM Polimas’ with the intention of causing public fear or anxiety.
The offence was committed at the Bestari Health Clinic in Padang Besar at 8:10 am on April 20th.

Dr. Jamnul was charged under Section 4(1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No 2) Ordinance 2021 that carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.
The act was also seen as hampering the government’s efforts to achieve herd immunity as a result of his talk which has also gone viral.
The accused paid the fine of RM5,000.
