The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has detected cheap face masks, some for as low as 50 sen a piece, which do not meet set quality standards.
Despite some sellers claiming that their 'reasonably priced' face masks are of good quality, meaning 3-ply, authorities have found that materials used were quite dubious.
The Ministry says it is dusty and can affect the health of users.
As such, it is advising you to be cautious when buying such face masks to prevent the risk of being exposed to danger.
It also did not rule out the possibility of introducing a regulation to ensure only face masks that meet the set standards are allowed to be sold, to ensure the safety of consumers.
In August, the government set the ceiling price for face mask at RM1 per unit.
So don't be penny wise, pound foolish when you shop for face masks!
