A policeman in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan has been arrested for allegedly accepting two sacks of onions as a bribe.
In the incident on Sunday (November 29th), the suspect had stopped a lorry driver carrying a load of onions for purportedly breaching the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
The 26-year-old driver, who had begun his journey from Shah Alam, Selangor, was stopped at a police checkpoint at the Senawang toll plaza of the North-South Expressway, and he did not have the necessary CMCO inter-state travel documents with him.
It’s understood that the suspect was going to turn a blind eye for RM200, but when the driver revealed he had no cash on him, he allegedly demanded for 10 sacks of onions, which were to be distributed to each cop at the checkpoint.
The driver, who had been taking odd jobs to make ends meet over the MCO, explained that 10 bags of onions at RM50 each would cause him to lose half his salary for the month.
And so, the cop settled for just two bags, before the victim lodged a police report against him yesterday (November 30th) upon returning to Shah Alam.
“The complainant was held as he could not produce his employer’s letter to enable him to travel during the CMCO. Payment was demanded of him which was substituted with the onions he was carrying in the lorry. We will carry out a thorough investigation and will take appropriate action,” said Seremban police chief ACP Mohd Said Ibrahim.
We hope this dirty cop is brought to justice!
