Malaysia’s Conditional Movement Control Order, or CMCO has been extended for another four weeks.

In a special address to the nation, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says the extension is scheduled to end on June 9th.

He adds that all the SOPs and regulations in place for the past 2 weeks of the CMCO, will remain in place.

Also, the extended CMCO period will coincide with some public holidays such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai and Pesta Kaamatan, which usually involves many people travelling.

As such, Tan Sri Muhyiddin reminded the public that the current inter-state travelling ban remains in place.

This means that travelling to your hometown for festival celebrations is not allowed throughout this period.

The Prime Minister says the public can still celebrate the festivities with neighbours and family members within the same state, in a group with a maximum of 20 people at a time.

The government is also planning to announce guidelines and new SOPs for congregational and Friday prayers at mosques.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin says authorities are still discussing and fine tuning the guidelines.

He adds that SOPs are also being drawn up for other houses of worship such as churches and temples.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Muhyiddin adds that those who’ve had their applications for the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) cash aid rejected, can still appeal.

The deadline to appeal has been extended until May 31st.
