Here’s a sentence we don’t hear often: a man ordered 10 pizzas for a party and was greeted by the police instead.
It all started last week, when the customer in question bought some Domino’s Pizza vouchers in bulk from an official store on Shopee.

After placing his order for which the pickup time was 2.30pm, the customer received a call from his friend saying that the orders seemed to be facing some problems. Upon checking his order history, however, everything seemed fine.
Shortly after, the said customer then received a call from someone who identified himself as a sergeant from the Commercial Crime Unit. The caller requested for the customer to meet him, either at the Domino’s outlet or at the police station. The customer opted to meet at Domino’s, and upon arrival, he was greeted by three policemen and put through an hour of interrogation in the presence of a representative from Domino’s as well as the branch manager of Domino’s who had lodged the report.
The customer was accused of hacking the system to get huge discounts, so he had to go through the whole process of purchasing the vouchers with them. The encounter ended with the police accepting his explanation. However, the distraught customer posted about his encounter on Facebook, where it went viral.
Given that the vouchers purchased by the customer was from an online platform, it sure does seem like investigations should be redirected towards the sellers instead. “If the coupon codes were illegally obtained, Domino’s should be filing a report against the seller of the codes, and disabling these ‘unauthorised’ codes on their system,” a contributor on Lowyat.net said.
After intensive investigation, Domino’s Pizza Malaysia released an apology video regarding the incident, where they said the decision to lodge a report was careless and made in haste.
Better be careful when you purchase your vouchers (and pizzas!)
