Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has denied claims that he has resigned as Health director-general, supposedly over the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, saying it’s fake news!

He took to Twitter to share a screenshot of the viral message, which read, “Finally, Dr Noor (Hisham) has put his foot down. The daily figures for COVID-19 are backlogged from last year.”

Separately, the Health Ministry (MOH) has also rubbished a similar blog post.

This fake blog post further claimed that the government has been lying about the rising daily COVID-19 numbers just to stay in power, and that the actual figures have been stabilising at around only 100 cases a day since early January 2021.

Malaysia’s daily tally of COVID-19 cases had surpassed the 5,000-mark last weekend, which sparked concerns among the public about what’s actually being done to contain the virus despite the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

However, Dr Noor Hisham confirmed on Monday (February 1st) that the recent spike in COVID-19 cases had been caused by a backlog in case reporting, including positive cases detected in 2020.
