ICYMI, two students, both girls, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bangsar tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday (October 8th).
But yet, the Education Ministry (MOE) hasn’t ordered the school to close down, and parents are wondering why.
As it stands, only the afternoon school session has been cancelled, and the Health Ministry (MOH) has already screened all students, teachers and staff.
Sanitisation works have also been completed.
SK Bangsar Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Mohd Yazid Mohd Yasin told Berita Harian, “Currently, there are no school closure orders, and the administrators also do not have the authority to close the school, instead they have to wait for instructions from the district education office (PPD) and the Ministry of Education.
“I was at the school just now. Many parents were concerned over the developments. Some even cried at seeing their children wearing the coloured bracelets,” he added.
It’s understood that the PTA has told parents they can choose whether or not they want to continue sending their kids to school, but they will have to send a letter to school authorities if they choose not to.
“This is important because if the district education office enquires about the low student turnout, the school can then produce the letters,” said Yazid.
The girls, in Year Five and Year Four respectively, had apparently contracted the virus from relatives, after returning from a wedding recently.
Malaysia reported 375 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, with 12 new cases in KL, and 36 in Selangor.
