He added that the high infection rate among policemen as frontliners in closest contact with the public is hampering their ability to perform duties.

Datuk Seri Hamzah expressed his concern for frontliners and commented in a statement today that “although they (police) wear face masks, the job requires policemen to communicate with people at a close range. Social distancing cannot be applied in order to ensure peace and order in the country.”

He applauded the policemen that have been assigned to assist immigration authorities in preventing illegal immigrants from entering the country noting that “through Ops Benteng conducted between May 1 and October 18, the security forces have detained 497 illegal immigrants and 28 agents who attempted to enter and leave the country through Sarawak.”

His statement called upon Malaysians to appreciate the sacrifices of frontliners and to heed to the call by Yang di-Pertuan Agong in fighting against COVID-19.

Thank you to all our frontliners, for all that you do!
